RSS

RSS (or Really Simple Syndication) feeds are free content feeds provided by many websites. They contain headlines, a summary or teaser paragraph, and a link to an article on the website.  Once you establish an RSS feed to a web site, whenever new content is added to the site, a message will pop up on your desktop and the web page will automatically come to you.

Read on to find out how to get RSS Reader software and add feeds to your favorite web sites.

Add DMHMRSAS feed to your Reader

If you are interested in establishing an RSS feed from a web site, look for an orange link to DMHMRSAS feed -- copy and paste the XML code into your RSS reader software button, an link to DMHMRSAS feed -- copy and paste the XML code into your RSS reader software button or a link to DMHMRSAS feed -- copy and paste the XML code into your RSS reader software symbol.  Any of these buttons will indicate the site syndicates its content.  Typically, the button links directly to the site’s RSS file.

Click on the link to DMHMRSAS feed -- copy and paste the XML code into your RSS reader software button to open the RSS file.  Highlight the URL found in the address bar of your browser.  Copy the URL (“Ctrl-C” on your keyboard), then paste the URL into your RSS Reader.  You have now added a feed pointing to the web site.

How to get RSS Reader Software

The first thing you will need to do is download RSS Reader software. There are many free RSS Readers available, such as those listed below.

If you use Firefox as your browser you will be able to mark the feeds as bookmarks in the browser. You will see this Firefox Rss Feed picture icon at the bottom right of the browser which will allow you to bookmark the feed.

Neither DMHMRSAS nor the Commonwealth of Virginia endorses any of these products.  The above links are listed as resource examples only.
