Mental Health  Crisis Intervention Continuum Survey

Introduction

In early November 2007 all 40 Community Services Boards (CSBs) completed a survey¹ of their crisis intervention continuum and submitted the results to the Office of Mental Health (OMH) at DMHMRSAS.  This survey seeks to follow up on information obtained from the 2005 survey² conducted by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) related to emergency services in Virginia.  We used all of the items from that survey and added some additional items. These are indicated on the 2007 survey as a “new item”.

When we received responses from all 40 CSBs in November 2007, we aggregated the responses and provided an additional opportunity for CSBs to review their responses. After reviewing their responses in aggregate form, CSBs had the opportunity to resubmit their survey by early December 2007. This afforded both OMH and CSBs the opportunity to verify the accuracy and validly of the survey findings before distribution.

We have carefully aggregated the data using a variety of methods for error checking. If you notice any errors or potential inaccuracies, please use the contact information below to let us know.

We have created a number of tables and graphs that parcel out the results in interesting ways. These tables and graphs paint a picture of the services related to crisis and emergency situations for consumers in the Commonwealth who are recovering from mental illness.

The results from this survey are very positive. There has been a significant overall increase in the array of crisis services throughout Virginia since the 2005 OIG survey. This has been a result of the collaborative efforts that will continue as we move forward with our transformation process.
