DMHMRSAS Web site Help (from A to W)

Access Keys:  Access keys are equivalent to keyboard shortcut keys.  If you place your mouse over the link to the Site Map at the bottom of any page, you will see a message that says "AccessKey=M". This means you can use the specified letter in conjunction with your browser access set-up to open that page.

Depending on your browser, you may be able to hold down the ALT key and strike the M key to get to the Site Map.  Netscape/Mozilla automatically open the link when you press the link's access key.

If you use Internet Explorer you will need to hold down the ALT key, press M, then press Enter (while continuing to hold down the ALT key) to open the link.

If your browser is already set up to use a given letter (such as S for it's menu system) it will override that particular web site access key.

The following Access keys are available on all menu item pages:

  1. V - Virginia State site
  2. G - Governor of Virginia site
  3. U - Contact Us
  4. S - Site Map
  5. C - Skip to Content
  6. T -  Top of page
  7. L -  Links to other sites
  8. P -  DMHMRSAS privacy and web site Policy
  9. W - DMHMRSAS web site Survey
  10. R -  RSS feed
  11. E -  E-mail the Webmaster
  12. H -  This help page.
  13. Numbers 1-5 are access keys to links on the Breadcrumb page navigation system, with 1 being the Home Page link.

Acronyms: An acronym is a useful shortcut "word" created from the first letter of the significant words in a title.  Where acronyms are used, in most cases if your cursor hovers over the acronym, the full title will be displayed.  For example, Virginia will display if your cursor hovers over VA (try it here).

Adobe Acrobat Reader:  When you cannot read a document that is in Adobe Acrobat icon PDF format, you may need to download the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Breadcrumb Navigation: Breadcrumbs enable you to track your navigation from the first web page to the current web page. You can navigate backwards through related pages by clicking on any of the breadcrumb links. This navigation tool lies just below the department banner on each page.
Access Keys
can be used on breadcrumb hyperlinks. Starting at  the leftmost link, access key 1 links to the Home Page.  Access key 2 goes to the second link, and so on rightward in ascending numerical order.  See the Access Keys topic at the top of this page to find out how Access Keys work with your browser.

Document that does not open:  If you are having difficulty opening PDF, Word (DOC), Excel and Powerpoint (PPT) files, you may need to download and install the proper software. Free downloads for read-only versions of the software are listed below:

Link that does not work:  Links to other organizations' web sites will open a new window. If your PC blocks pop-ups, you may need to hold down the CTL key or the SHIFT key when you click on the link. DMHMRSAS accepts no responsibility for the content of linked sites. Other sites may change without notice.

If the page you requested could not be found, please notify the DMHMRSAS Web Administrator.

Main MenuThe left navigation menu is the main navigation tool, and is displayed on every page.  It provides access to the major sections on the web site.

Navigation:

Page Menu:  Many office pages will have a page menu at the top of the content.  A page menu allows you to see how the page is organized, and allows you to quickly navigate to any section of the page. Additional links related to the page may also be included on the page menu.

PDF Documents:  When you cannot read a document that is in Adobe Acrobat icon PDF format, you may need to download the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader.  Documents in  PDF format require the use of Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded for free from Adobe Systems, Inc.

Printing a Page:  All pages will automatically print without the left navigation menu.

Refresh the Screen:  When you have recently viewed a page and the page content has since been updated, you may need to refresh the screen to see the updated information.  Use View, Refresh or click on the Refresh button on the browser menu.

Search Statewide: The Statewide Search feature helps you find your subject matter throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.  The Statewide Search button is located at the top right corner of the web page.

Search this Site: This Site Search button is located on the line immediately below the department heading.  This search feature lets you search for web pages as well as documents within the site.
Be careful to specify what you want to find.  If you search for simply "Licensing" you will get every page in the site plus documents that contain the word because "Licensing" is a menu item that appears on every page of the site.

Site Map:  The Site Map displays an outline of the web site.  You may click on the Site Map at the bottom of every web page on this site.

When Web site Banner does not display properly:  Many components of the web site banner actually reside on a commonwealth central web site and this web site links to the commonwealth web site.  The "linked-to" site may be temporarily unavailable due to server or network issues.  In that event, the issues will be resolved as soon as possible by the site engineer. Once the issue is resolved (generally a matter of seconds or minutes), and you refresh your screen, the banner will display properly.

When Web site is not available:  The site may be temporarily unavailable due to server or network issues.  In that event, the issues will be resolved as soon as possible by the site engineer.  Once the issue is resolved (generally a matter of seconds or minutes), and you refresh your screen, the banner will display properly.
