Evidence Based Practices Definition
The Office of Child and Family Services uses the definition of evidence based practices established by the American Psychological Association in 2005. We have altered the definition slightly to maintain continuity with the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services’ mission statement. Evidence-based practice in mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse is the integration of the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of consumer characteristics, culture, and preferences.
